The "Don't just do something...Stand there!" Club
The above quote is attributed to the Buddha. I love it! It's a great reminder that action is not the end all, be all way to participate in the world. It reminds me of the Biblical reminder to "Be still and know." There have been a good number of attempts to organize group prayers or moments of silence for peace...in my email circles, anyway :) This is another such attempt. Every moment of stillness matters, imo. And if I can encourage even a few people to a daily practice of being still and knowing, then I'm happy to do it! Sign up and receive a daily reminder (always the same) to take a moment or two or more to "be still."
One easy technique to reach stillness I borrow from Wayne Dyer's Getting in the Gap. Simply see the word "be" with your mind's eye to your left; then look slightly to the right and see "still" and then turn your mental glance to the space between the words--the gap. For me this is an easy way to quiet my mind. But any method you use is fine, of course!
